Project WISE
Waste-pickers' Inclusion, Sustainability & Empowerment

Who We Are
Our Roots
Project WISE is the brainchild of four young master’s candidates of The Graduate Institute, Geneva. The project aims to target two challenges - improper waste management and social exclusion of waste pickers in Hyderabad. Project WISE uses an Inclusion-Empowerment-Sustainability (IES) model to:
1) Formally integrate ‘waste pickers’ into the waste management system through training, advocacy and approaching the households within a community, 2) Enhance social dignity by providing economic security to the waste pickers as they formally operate and are recognized by households and, 3) Establish better waste management practices and transform social behaviours contributing towards a sustainable environment.
The project aims to build an inclusive society that respects the rights and dignity of the most marginalised and unrecognised sections i.e. the waste pickers. It has been awarded a grant from Dr. Jenö Staehelin Foundation to execute the project, starting January 2021. We are currently executing the project in Hyderabad.
